Brogues and Oxfords Buying Guide

Brogues and oxfords  originated from Scotland and Ireland in the 1930s, but have since travelled worldwide. Traditional  ones are heavy and made out of un-tanned leather with perforation, and purely functional. Brogues  are similar to Oxfords apart from their enclosed lacing. 

Style and Trends

• Full Brogues : Full Brogues are otherwise called as wingtips. They have toe cap with W in shape, and decorated patterns punched at various portions of the shoes. 

• Half or Semi Brogue : The toe cap of Half or Semi Brogues is straight as opposed to wing cap of Full Brogues and with less punching and serrated leather. 

• Ghillie Brogues : Ghillie Brogues are lace-up shoes with laces and perforations. Gillie Brogues do not have a tongue and are designed mainly for social events. They are available in styles for men and women.  

• Heeled Brogues : Brogues worn by ladies  are designed with a heel. They have lace  to fasten, and open space for toe. Brogues with heel are available in stunning colours and even neutral solid grey  and brown  colours.    

• Brogue boots  prominently feature on the ramp for fashion shows! The other models of brogues are flat brogues  and shoe-boot brogues . For a casual look, you could wear brogues with bare ankles with rolled up jeans!   

Oxfords

Oxford shoes  are occasionally called Balmorals. In US, they are one and the same. Mostly, Balmorals do not have seams apart from the toe cap. When they are made of suede leather  or brown leather , they are informal. In black leather , they’re apt for formal occasions.
