Annuals

These plants live and die within one year and do not regrow the following season without replanting. Common annuals are marigolds ,basil , and petunias .

Flower Bulbs

Bulbs, unlike seeds, are already active plants. While some are easy to grow--like amaryllis  or muscari --others require more care. They are all, however, still perennials.

Herb Seeds

Herbs, relatively low-maintenance plants, can be the perfect addition to any garden or kitchen windowsill. Growing kits  are a popular and easy way to start herb gardens.

Perennials

People enjoy perennials because they regrow each year--no replanting necessary. Popular perennials are chives ,foxgloves , and oregano .

Vegetable Seeds

There's nothing like growing fresh, colourful vegetables. Think it'll be too hard? Vegetables like squash ,peppers , and tomatoes  practically grow themselves.

• Mulch: Placed over the soil, this provides a layer of protection for your garden by retaining moisture, reducing erosion, providing nutrients, and suppressing weed growth. Coloured mulch can also be used to beautify your garden.
• Weed Control: Weeds feed off the nutrients of everything you are growing in your garden, which results in wilted, scrawny, or dead plants. There are many ways to controls weeds, however, so don't worry about them taking over your garden!

Sometimes that cute little plastic watering can  of yours just won't get the job done. Garden hoses are necessary when you need to water large gardens or portions of your lawn.

Hedge Trimmers

There are two types of trimmers--manual hedge clippers and electric hedge trimmers . Both are used to trim and shape hedges as well as a variety of other outdoor plants.

Lawn Mowers

Whether you get a gas-powered or electric mower , they are important for keeping a neat lawn. Small yards only need a walk-behind mower , but larger lawns require a riding machine.

Leaf Blowers

Leaf blowers are a fast--albeit noisy--way to rid your garden or yard of stray leaves, twigs, and debris. Purchase a leaf blower and vacuum  to collect leaves once you have gathered them.

Tillers

Tillers, also known as rotavators , cultivate your garden with rotating blades or tines. These are important tools to use before planting because they help prepare a smooth, loose seedbed.
