Bend it Like Beckham 

Keira Knightley's  breakout film about a young girl who wants to play football and have the path of the ball bend after she kicks it in the manner of David Beckham . 

Coach Carter 

Samuel L. Jackson  plays a high school basketball coach who causes an uproar when he suspends his entire team for failing to meet academic standards.

Cool Runnings 

A disgraced former bobsled champion persuades a group of Jamaican sprinters to enter the winter Olympics as a bobsled team. Wackiness ensues: wackiness based on a true story.

Semi-Pro 

Will Ferrell  is an eccentric basketball player in this comedy, the third in his trilogy of sports parodies.

The Damned United 

A fictionalised account of English football manager Brian Clough's  disastrous 44 day reign as manager of Leeds United .

Boxing Films

Boxing is probably the sport most depicted on film, as it's one of the simplest and most cinematic. There are so many classic boxing films it's almost unfair to other sports to let them compete, so they're a special category here.

Raging Bull 

One of Martin Scorsese's  most highly regarded films, Robert DeNiro  plays Jake LeMotta, a heavyweight champion and a man torn apart by rage and inner demons.

Rocky 

The first in the long running Rocky series, Sylvester Stallone  is the hopeless underdog given a chance to fight the heavyweight champion.

Million Dollar Baby 

Clint Eastwood's  Oscar winning film in which he plays the grizzled coach to Hilary Swank's  up and coming female boxer. 

Somebody Up There Likes Me 

Paul Newman's  first major role as Rocky Graziano, the third most famous Rocky in boxing, and his unlikely rise from prison to the world champion.

Ali 

Will Smith  stars as Ali in this biopic of the boxing legend

This documentary, filmed over 5 years, follows the story of two high school students and their dream of making it into the NBA.

Escape to Victory 

At height of World War 2, the Nazis decide to stage a propaganda coup by making a gang of Allied prisoners play a team of German professionals in a football match. What they haven't counted on, however, is that the group of prisoners includes Bobby Moore ,Ossie Ardiles  and Pele . It only gets more plausible from there.

The Hustler 

While some may argue pool's not a sport, few would argue with Paul Newman giving one of his greatest performances as pool shark Eddie Felson in The Hustler. And pool is a sport, kind of.
